Our Farm House is coming along quite quickly and we officially ordered cabinets for the kitchen a week ago! We've gone with custom cabinets from Lowe's in two different finishes. On the base cabinets the finish is called coffee, it's a medium wood stain with a dark glaze. The upper cabinets will have a paint finished called portobello.
Rounding out the finishes in the kitchen is the ledgestone, and stainless steel (behind the cooktop) backsplash.

Layout
Essentially the kitchen is an L-Shaped design. One end is anchored by pantry cabinets and the other end is anchored by a large oven/micro combination cabinet and the refrigerator. The perspective view of the kitchen shows an island. The island will be a future project that will provide more storage, a prep sink, maybe another dishwasher (good for those larger gatherings like holidays) as well as bar seating for four.
The elevation depicts the dining room wall that will have a built in for a bar area. The bar will house a wine refrigerator, storage for dinner ware, wine glasses and wine as well as shelves for display.

Finishes
For the countertops we chose a quartz material. Quartz is a man made stone produced to look like granite, but far much easier to maintain. Due to its non-porous qualities, quartz will not stain and can withstand high temperatures.

For the floors, well I have yet to decide between tile and cork. Cork, being a hard surface, is softer than tile. As for the tile, I am probably leaning more this way because I don't want to have too many different flooring materials in the house. It would cause the house to feel broken up and disrupt the flow.

Tell me what you think, would you choose cork or porcelain tile?
Happy Friday
